    Question Coral Propagattion help

    Hi everyone...

i was originally planning on connecting a 100 gallon rubbermaid inline with my main system for coral propagation, but after reading some other threads, I am having second thoughts.

Would a 100 gallon tub with high water flow, deep sand bed , and a skimmer with good lighting be sufficient to grow coral....i have seen a lot of folks growing corals without live rock as bio filtration...

plumbing wise, this would much simpler for me...goal is sps, some lps, a 250 and a 400 watt halide

    thanks for any feedback
    Peace...Dan

    Dan,

I think any system that is going to be used long term without lots of water changes should incorporate liverock for biological filtration. It is very possible that the systems you've seen have had liverock elsewhere yet plumbed into the system.

Sounds reasonable to me, BUT high water flow and DSB don't usually go well together! I am lucky to have my stream in my 90, and I think the only reason I can do it is because of the LR.

I think it would be to your advantage to try and plumb it all together, that way both systems can benefit each other!

Both of those replies are right on Dan. I think the more live rock you can put into a system, to a point, the better off your system is gonna be. If you plumb them all together, that would also save you money on another skimmer. Just let your display skimmer do the work for you. I don't think it's possible to overskim an sps system with a dsb anyways!! HTH

my original plan was to plumb together anyways..... i actually have two skimmers, currently running on the one system, will just keep em that way
