Arrow How does an ozonizer work

Hello, I heard from my LFS that an ozonizer will help raise my ph in my saltwater tank. How does this work and what exactly does it do? Any suggestions as to where I can get one?

Sterilization and purification of water by the use of ozone has been used for many years in drinking water and wastewater treatment plants throughout the world. Ozone is a very reactive form of oxygen that can destroy an enormous variety of liquid waste materials and toxins. In the aquarium, it offers a simple, highly effective method of maintaining a clean and stable environment for the plants and animals. www.marinedepot.com

Hi brooke,
To add to what had been said already, I'll post a few links for you to look over.
First the direct and indirect reaction mechanism of ozone.
http://www.lenntech.com/ozone/ozone-...mechanisms.htm

and here's an article on effects of using ozone in closed aquatic systems
http://216.168.47.67/cis-fishnet/JAAS/D062.htm

as to how use it or ways of employing ozone, take a look at this lengthy thread.
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...hreadid=287495

Basically, everyone that is using ozone is after one goal and that is to reduce organics in the water.

HTH.

Well, sounds I'll be traipsing into the LFS to price their ozone equipment. There's a pretty huge one near by.

That Pet Place http://www.800padutch.com/z/thatfishplace.htm

They actually have some marine biologists on staff to help with questions, but the way I look at it, is that you can never have to much information.

How do you hook this up, I assume you plug it in, and then what? Sorry if that's a really dumb question.

Well, many people run ozone through their skimmers. For more details, just read over that thread I linked to.
