A friend of mine was moving and just gave me a free fish tank (And HOT Magnum filter, heater, NO lighting etc...). Cool! I think it's a 30g long tank, but haven't measured it yet.
Either way, my current setup is an AGA 90 gal not drilled w/RS Berlin HOB skimmer. I was thinking that the best use for this new tank would be to setup a sump/refug in the stand (the tank will fit in there), but I have a few questions: Is this a good idea, given that it's not a drilled tank? Any opinions on the best HOB overflow to add to do this? Where can I get plans for converting a tank into a sump/refug? Is setting up a quarantine tank a better use of the new tank? How would you try and work with this setup? What would you do? Thanks, Rob |

I think using this tank is potintial a very bad idea.I have one question and it is very important.
Are you positivly sure no ich medications where ever added to this tank?(they contain COPPER) are the sides of the glass a green tint? answer this then we will move ahead. cheers, joe |

I cannot be sure as to what was used in this tank in the past. It used to be a FW community tank for a very very novice fishkeeper and was not in service for more than 6 months or so.
The glass looks clear except for a little hard, white buildup near the top of the tank. This is why I post here before doing anything -- I'm good at coming up with bad ideas ![]() |

you must be sure no ICH or other medications containing copper where added to this tank.(They probably were)
Copper never leaves the tank (ie..glass,rocks,ornaments...) Good Luck joe P.s. I went to my lfs and bought a little 10g tank for 8.95 and use this as a sump/refug some people goto to walmart and buy large 30g rubbermaid container to use as sump/refug......this is a very good thing to have on your system |

Point made. I won't use the 30g for the sump/refug or quarantine. It'll probably just turn into another Cichlid tank... I don't have any Tanganika yet...
OK, given that I won't use that tank, but I still want a refugium, how would you guys go about adding the overflow to a tank. Would you add a HOB overflow (Which one?) or try drilling the tank (Probably not possible since it's full of 100 lbs of live rock + water + inverts + 200 lbs of sand)? |
