Very Very PRETTY! Those are some of the BRIGHTEST corals I have seen in a while! I'll take one of EACH!

On a side note, you may want to ease off the .jpeg compression a little, the pictures look a little "pixely" on my screen. Do you use Photoshop? If so I will write you an .atn file that will resize your images for web display, we can make them a nice 4x6 size and keep the file size around 150-200K That way we don't see those artifacts! Let me know if you want it!

Hi Mike,
I try to keep the file size 75-85k (for dial-up users) hence the pixels showing. I just use the microsoft photo editor to crop then resize with Image program that comes for free on the PC. I shoot them at about 2 meg originally.

Regards,
Kevin

Beautiful stuff, Kevin!

I really like that next to last pic of tricolor Acropora( perhaps A.valida?) in the original post, what is the size of that thing?

Thanks all for looking and commenting

Gene,
It is a A. valida. I cut it very often as you can see by the front part. It used to be perfectly round. It's about 8-9" across. I am going to cut the portion that is encroaching on the blue millepora in the next few days.

When I originally placed the frags in the tank (4 years ago) I placed them too close together. This is a common mistake that results in the inability of the corals to grow out and mature into their natural forms. For my 450 I will place the frags 24" apart minimum so I can grow them into larger colonies. I know this will limit the number of species/types of coral, but it's well worth it over time IMO. I will also only put slow growing corals in it.

Regards,
Kevin

Thanks for the details, Kevin.

Do you think it would be easier to move that blue mille and let that valida do it's thing?

Don't get me wrong, I think that blue mille is gorgeous but that valida is stunning, at least to my eye.
And by the way, I agree with you on the plan to keep lesser amount of species and letting them grow out to at least partially full potential.

Well, good luck on that departament,Kevin. It seems they all grow fast in your tank, regardless of the species, you got to stop feeding them steroids....

Hi Barry,
The T. Gigas is still pretty small, about 14-15". The halides run 9 hours and the actinics 14. I'm running (from right to left) a Radium, Coralvue 10,000K, Coralvue Reeflux 10,000K, Coralvue 10,000K, and Coralvue 10,000K (all 400W). They are driven by PFO HQI Ballasts. I'm going to be changing three of the bulbs to Coralvue Reeflux 10,000K bulbs in the next few weeks. I've run quite a few bulbs and I really like the performance of the Reeflux bulb.

Regards,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

How long have you used the Reeflux bulbs? The reason I asked is becouse I switched just a few days ago from XM's to the Reeflux. I really like the look of the tank with them on but I haven't checked into their PAR or anything else for that matter. Did Sanjay ever tested them?

Hi Gene,
I've had them on 2 of the cubes at the store for about a month.

I don't know if Sanjay tested them or not but I did

If I can get a spare moment I will take a picture of one of the corals that has changed tomorrow.

Regards,
Kevin

Thanks,Kevin, that would be great!

I've noticed so far that the blues on some of my Acroporas are much bluer looking than before( and it;s only been a few days) and much less purple. It will be interesting to see what the long term reaction will be from the corals.

Kevin,

Amazing Corals. Where do you purchase from? I am getting bored with the local store and I just about to buy a 144 Oceanic Half Circle Tank. I have looked at reefermadness.us, but have not purchased from them yet. Any suggestions? Looking for exactly what you have.

Thanks,

Matt

Matt,
I know for a fact that most of his corals were grown from frags. You ought to see the size of his orange cap!!

Hi Matt,
I have been collecting corals since 1997 and have amassed a fair collection since that time. The only new ones lately have been from fragfarmers.com. They have some really nice selections but are rather expensive for the size frags, but I want diversity so I pay

The Oceanic tank is quite interesting and makes a great impression.

Regards,
Kevin
