Makes a a lot of sense. I should probably thaw all my shrimp, rinse and freeze. Could explain why I am getting aptasia.

Aiptasia has to be present to continue to develop.

Aiptasia isn't something that just appears, it is added to an aquarium through liverock, a new coral or something similar. It is said that Aiptasia will only thrive in nutrient rich tanks but it has been my experience that given the chance, they can reproduce quickly in nutrient poor tanks if given the chance. The point is however than a single Aiptasia has to be present, they just don't appear from excessive nutrients.
