Nope haven't seen them, but they sure are cool!
These are really neat species that apparently ORA has just started working on
Anyone seen these on the market yet?

Wonder how long it will be before they are available? And how much they will run!![]()
I have never seen those befor. They are cool.

I saw ones similar to the Picasso Percula in LA a few weeks ago at Quality Marine. Their fish came from the UK and were called snowflake Perculas, but they looked pretty much like that. They just came from a different breeding facility, therefore different marketed name.
Hi Steven, the ones you saw are "snowflake" clowns. They are rare offspring hybrids of A. percula x A. ocellaris. The hybrids themselves are nto rare, but ones with the "snowflake" banding are rare.
I personally do not like the look of them.
The Picasso ones are something else, though. Those i'd want

Please call the Sultan of Oman for me..and have him ship some Amphiprion omanensis :eek3:

Elmo dims the lights in the tanks and puts on some Marvin Gaye for the clowns...

Have you seen the price on these guys? OUCH!

It's really frustrating to have ORA a few miles up the road and not have them deal with you unless you're a dealer... I guess it's their right to be a wholesaler, but lots of LFSs here in FL get their stuff from places other than ORA... I drool on the ORA website but it may as well be in Indonesia even though it's less than an hour's drive from here...

Hmmm... now that the tank is full, I could convert the pool to saltwater...

very interesting match-A. percula and A. ocellaris-- I have an ocellaris and am thinking of getting a percula I wonder if they'll mate and have a "snowflake" baby only problem is my ocellaris is already 2 or 3 years old( I was given tank fish etc. so a percula may not fit in
Martin,
Where did you see some for sale at?
Bubba,
I would think with the facility so close, there has got to be some retailers that gets livestock from ORA?
Scott here is one place that I have found some.http://www.toofishy.com/home.phpOriginally Posted by Reefland

A. percula will sometimes breed with A. ocellaris in captivity even though their natural ranges do not overlap, so there are no natural hybrids as there are with a few other clownfish species.Originally Posted by newtothis
You should get a sexually immature juvenile A. percula. That means it should be captive-bred so that you could be reasonably sure of its age when you buy it. If you place it in your tank with your A. ocellaris, it should mature into a male A. percula. The presence of your female A. ocellaris should prevent it from becoming a female.
Assuming that they do hit it off and form a pair, the offspring will be unpredictable. They will exhibit characteristics of their parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, etc., but they will not be identical to each other. They will, however, be fertile. If you want to fix a certain color morph, you would have to select for it and breed through dozens of generations to try to fix it. In other words, select two of the offspring that meet your preferred coloration and breed them. Then select the two best offspring from that pairing, etc.
Personally I think the snowflake Percullaris are unattractive.

Personally, I agree with you both!![]()
I think they are neat looking. However I would not want one due to the fact is that they are not natural. It like people diying anemones and glass fish diffrent colors just to make a buck.
The reason I posted is that I could NOT belive my eyes when I saw the price.

IMO, it's not quite the same as dyeing an anemone... that is applying a substance with known toxicity to an animal unnecessarily. On the other hand, hybrids can live long and happy lives - sometimes with advantages over the original species. Selective breeding for the "Picasso" type is no more than we (humans) have done with wolves to get dachshunds, beagles, and shih tzus. Individuals that have been bred for a particular appearance can live long and happy lives. The dyed anemones are most-likely doomed to a much shorter life-span with no good reason at all other than to try to make a buck. JMO.
I still think the price on those fish is darn UGLY!
