I've been looking around at the Aquafuge hang on refugiums for some macro and pod growing. I was wondering about the lighting. Wouldn't you want to run the fuge lights opposite the display lights to maintain pH? I don't see how you can do that with the hang on, without shining light on the display 24 hours, which I definitely don't want. Does anyone have experience with the hang on's. Or am I better off turning my sump into a fuge?

You can attach a background to the back of your tank. That way it sits between the tank and fuge and prevents the fuge light from shining through. IMO it looks nicer too.

I have a background on my tank, but the light would shine down through the top wouldn't it? A background wouldn't help much in that case.

I think the light would be directed pretty much into the fuge, unless you hung a MH 15" about the unit. Using a little PC fixture sitting right on the fuge wouldn't push much, if any, light into the display.

Do you think something like this would work?
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...&N=2004+113345 Or do you have any better suggestions as to where I can get one? I think the one I provided the link to, may be 1/2" to wide. ![]()

Do you already have the Aquafuge? If not I think they sell a model that already has the light with it?

Ok I was wrong but here is a light fixture that is recommended by Premium Aquatics for the 12" CPR Aquafuge:
http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merch...y_Code=Special I would imagine they have other lighting options for the other Aquafuge's. |

Okay, found a better link with a better selection of lights. I'm looking at buying a Medium Aquafuge Hang-On Refugium, which is about 19" in total length. Any opinion on which one is better, should I be concerned with wattage? I'll be growing macro and pods.

Sorry for asking this again, but are you sure that the light will not shine on the display? All of the pics I see of this fuge, show the light sitting inches above the water line, I'm still not sure how the background is going to help with this.

I have the cpr 13" hang on fuge and imo it's too small for my 20g sps system. I light it 24/7 with a regular flourescent light and it gets plenty of light from my halide also. The flourescent shines in the display at night but it gives a nice moonlight effect. I'd like to have a 20g fuge that gravity feeds personally.

I don't think it matters what light you get for the unit as long as it provides enough light to support the growth of the macroalgae you are trying to grow for nutrient export. Also on the light leeching, I really don't think it will be a problem. If some light did hit the display it wouldn't be enough to have any negative effects.
