Question Shipping DT's Phytoplankton

I order about 100bux worth of stuff today from marinedepot.com and among all the stuff was some DT's, the total for shipping was $7.99 but I just got an email and here is what it reads

Hi Rocky,
Thanks for ordering with us. We just wanted to confirm the shipping costs before we ship out your order. Due to the nature of DT's new Concentrated Phytoplankton, it is required that it does not spend too much time during transit. Therefore, it must be shipped 2nd Day or Next Day. The cost will be $18 to have your order shipped to you via 2nd Day Service.

Have you guys heard of this? Is it true that DT's need to ship within 2 days and if so why? Thats another 10bux for shipping

I think it is because DT's is alive and it needs to be refrigerated to um...stay alive. Too much time in the back of a UPS truck (espically during summer) and it wont do much, other than pollute your tank with dead phytoplankton. I amy be completely wrong but this is what i have gatherd from reading a brochure on the stuff i got from a LFS.

Yes, it needs to stay cold. That keeps everything alive.

Hi deary! Yes indeed. They are correct. It is more expensive for pet stores to get it in as well because they must ship it overnight. I know this through my local supplier. They aren't pulling your chain.

Thanx

Andy

Marineline

and Joanne

I told him to just take it off the order and ship the rest....I can get it from somewhere else that is about an hour away. Makes sense now that I think about it cuz I had some about a month ago and I had to keep it refrigerated. For some reason I thought it was after you opened it that it had 2 be refrigerated :P

Curious though...is that Golden Pearls or Marine snow the same way? does it need to be refrigerated?

You know. Those are good questions! Hmmm...tell you what. About the Golden Pearls, email Susan. She just got a gazillion of them. She'll know. I don't think you have to refrigerate Marine Snow. I've heard that Marine Snow is not that great of a product in comparison to DT's.

Joanne

Update: Susan says that Golden Pearls do NOT need refrigerated.
