Top Crown Snails

I had a LFS ask me about these, I had never heard the name before. After a brief search I found Fosters listing them as "Astrea undoza". Okay I thought I could use that for a Google search... First thing Google asks is "Did you mean Astrea undosa?" Okay I thought...

Turns out the only thing I could find was other vendor sites like Fosters selling the critters. I would like to know if anyone has had any hands on with these guys, or better yet information on natural habitat etc. I don't want to buy something "new" without research first. For all I know these could be the next "IO Nassarious Snails"

Mike,

The only thing that I've been able to find is that they do grow rather large...up to 4 inches Ranges from Point Conception,Ca to Baja and feeds on algae. I can do some more digging around or ask Ron about them.
I think the best bet would be to ask your LFS owner where those snails were collected and go from there. Astraea undosa as a key word brings about 10 pages on Google, btw.

PS. Forgot to add a link, sheesh... :rolleys:

Ya I went thru the first few pages, and all I could find was vendors trying to sell the beasties.... 4" is a rather LARGE snail for a REEF! Yikes.

I will continue searching maybe I can dig up a good link...

Found this link....

http://melevsreef.com/id/astraeaundosa.html

Guess this means to leave them alone... Most of the other links I find are in a foreign language. I have also found several pictures of HERMIT CRABS in the undosa shells. OR they "polished" undosa shells on e-bay!
