Adding coral vite

What's the "propper" way to add coral vite to your tank. Do you turn off your pumps first? I guess I could read the side of the bottle, but it's more fun this way!!! Thanks.

Hi there. Well, I can't say that no one uses the stuff. But I don't. Personally, I put as little as humanly possible in my tanks. I've found that adding a lot of chemicals, such as Coral Vite, often leads to algae blooms or lack of promised results. HTH

I don't use it in my tank, but I drink it. It has helped restore my underarm hair.

brown trout,

First of all, WELCOME TO REEFLAND!

Well, if you search the boards, you will find that many people don’t hold Marc Weiss products in very high regard.

And as above, the only thing Coral Vital did for my systems when I used it in the past was promote hair algae.

The only thing that I add to my reefs beyond feeding and monthly water changes is CA and alkalinity supplements, and perhaps iodine. (Iodine no longer as one of foods that I use is rich in iodine.)

Regards,

Scott

I think he is referring to the Coral-Vite by Kent not the Coral-Vital by Weiss. I use the Kent product. Add a capfull once a week. I also add iodine, strontium/magnesium, and C-Balance. Never turned off the filtration yet when adding anything. I have noticed that some corals really open up a lot the day after adding the strontium and magnesium. I'm a little lazy in the water change department lately so I think the supplements are helping out a lot.

coral vite is crap(as well as essential elements) notice how kent tells you to use another of there products for best results?

feed your tank nutrient rich foods and you will have no need to supplement trace elements!

Sharky,

you not doing water changes after adding all those supplements is harming your tank to the extreme.I do water changes just to dilute the elements added by my dosing of B-Ionic.

Talking

Hi All,

Whoops, sorry about the name confusion.

But my comment is really about supplements in general.

Regards,

Scott

I have been busy with DIY projects lately so the water changes went on hold. It really isn't too bad. I did one about 2 1/2 months ago. I used to do 10% every 3 to 4 weeks. So far no problems from letting the tank sit for this amount of time. I will probably do one this weekend just to be on the safe side. The reason I was adding this stuff was so any elemnts missing would be replenished while the water changes were on hold. So far so good. No problems yet with the Kent products.
