LR curing

Hey guys I have a question about Lr. I have a 30 gal. tank its about 9 months old and have 30 pounds of LR in it and doing great. I just bought 10 lbs. of rock It has been cured once. It will take about 3 days to get here. Do I go ahead a put into tank If not how do I cure it again. If it does not give me a big spike I would like to put it in. Thanks Worm

I personally would wait till you have zero nitrites, and ammonia but there are other things that should be considered such as how many pieces the 10lbs that you are recieving are in. This will determine how much you can add at one time. If the rock smells like clean ocean or stinky smelly will make a difference too. do you have a powerhead, rubbermaid and cheap backup skimmer? If so then your in business w/ a curing container....You might need a heater. With 10lbs you dont need much to cure your rock, heck you could probably use a 5g bucket.

I think after 3 days of transit there is going to be some die-off and therefore some problems being added to an established tank. I would try to cure it using a bucket, heater, powerhead and test the water after a day. If it's good, it's good. If it's not, then continue to leave the rock in the bucket and perform nearly 100% water changes using your tank water every day or every other day until the readings are good.

I don't believe 10 lbs of new already cured live rock will be too much of a bio load increase for your existing system. I would just stop feeding the fish for 3 or 4 days after adding it to be safe. Your existing biological filtration and skimmer should beable to keep with any load increase. I wouldn't worry about simply adding it directly to my tank after getting it if it was me.

I guess my concern is that during 3 days in transit, there is going to be some die-off and foul-ness...

going to definately have die off. I did that and it had a negative affect on my system. I would say if you have a garbage can full of ready water you let your rock sit in it for a day or 2 (After you clean it) then it should not have as big an impact on your system.
