The next and last fish
I like to stock my 29g with one more fish, heres the list now:
yellow tang 2 percs I'm thinking a scott's ferry wrasse like rins has, a lined wrasse, or a royal gramma, what do y'all think? personally I'd like a pair of scott's but I have a hunch that I can't keep a pair of them in my tank(fingers crossed) also these guys safe with shrimp and hermits crabs? |

I don't want to start off on the wrong foot, but a 29G is already too small for a yellow tang. And I'm not sure if you've ever seen a Scott's Fairy Wrasse in person, but they get up to 5-6" long pretty easily which would make me have serious reservations about putting a PAIR of them in anything smaller than a 90+ gallon tank, and a single one still should probably have at least a 60 or larger, as wrasses love to swim. True you may be able to find small ones but you're just asking for trouble when you squeeze juveniles into small tanks; as they grow they just become more and more hostile. The lined wrasse, royal gramma, or the black cap (or any other small pseudochromis for that matter) would be a lively addition to your tank without fear of any overcrowding and probably wouldn't clash with your existing fish. I've had 2 royal grammas in the past and they have always been the centerpiece of my tank; visitors just can't believe their eyes when they see the dramatic coloring. They can also be real characters when they get comfortable and don't hide in the rocks all day.

I must agree with dbman in everything he said. Without trying to take the "moral high ground", I think that a 29g is too small for a tang and any medium to large wrasses. I recently downgraded my system from a 180g to a 90g, 3x2x2. I sold my tangs, wrasses, everything except my pair of perculas, 3 chromis and a rainford goby because my tank is just not big enough for the other fish IMO. Luckily, I had a friend setting up a 750g 10x4x2.5 reef so he had plenty of room for my beloved fish, and I can still go visit them sometimes. But that's another story. Really, I'd get rid of the tang, he will just get stressed. Get a dottyback, goby, blenny, chromis, basslet, something like that, as they will be much happier in your system. Firegobies and 6-line wrasse are two more ideas. THere are plenty of cool smaller fish who would be very happy in a 29g system.
Regards, Tom |

Yeah, I have a 150 gal reef and I had second thoughts about putting a purple tang in there.
