I have ran my tank at 80 to 84 degrees for several years now. with a controller on a fan now It stays pretty much between 81-83. Natural reef temps average low 80's

today i recevied my new corallife digital thermometer. i never really knew my temperature always assumed that the heater i had set at 77 degrees that was the temperature in the tank. but the digital therometer says that temperature is at 81 degrees. can some one help and give me advice on how to lower the temperature?

Agree, don't lower it as 81 is a fine temperature.![]()
my tanks temp in the morning was at 83 degrees and dropped to 81 degree at two in the morning.
I think that is fine. I wouldn't want it to get much warmer than 83 during the day though.
I run it 80-82. Keep an eye on yours. If it does start to get higher, perhaps a fan would help keep it that 1-2 degrees lower. But I agree with the group here. Low 80s if more than fine.
I run 79-81 deg'
I try to keep mine between 75-80 degrees. Too low?

Anthony Calfo says 76 to 82 with a target of 78. SPS people tell me that for long term success 76 to 78 is best. And everyone tells me to avoid swings in temp - like more than +/- 1 in a 24 hour period.
I like the target of 80 with the smallest possible swing in either direction.
Yikes, just one more detail to drive me crazy getting just right. It's gotta be one thing or another.Originally Posted by SeaMe

Keeping the range down isnt too bad. I use fans and a Ranco temperature controller. It turns the fans on at 82 and off at 81 so it holds it pretty steady. I use one on my 20 gallon seahorse tank also with just a 3" fan and it works great.
