couple of new spawning pairs

I purchased two more pairs of clownfishes about 2-3 months ago. Both are now spawning...and I should be able to offer ocellaris soon. My other GSM spawning pair is in the main reef, while this one is in a dedicated 29 gallon.

Ok Ill be the first to kick this thread into high gear cuz I would like to see my clowns start breeding

Elmo Nice Pics bro

I got 2 Black Perculas in my 28g hex and I have had them for a little over a month now and they where in the same tank when I got them there is approximately 6 rocks weighing from 3-12 lbs each most of them are base rocks. that are just now getting some small splashes of coralline algae on them. I seeded the tank with about 2-3 lbs or LR rubble to get the coralline started. I only have a few corals in the tank but and the 2 fish are the only fish in there (however im thinking about throwing a couple of peppermint shrimp in there cuz of small aiptas outbreaks) I would love to encourage or should I say better facilitate my tank for ideal breeding conditions. Should I put a small piece of tile in the tank whatever I put in there it has to be small cuz im limited on space. I let someone borrow my Joyce Wilkerson book and forgot who and it seems to have not found its way back. So are you like gonna start getting more involved into this?

Heres a pic of them

Thanks Scott Rocky, I will post some suggestions in a separate post...although I'm at work at the moment, and cannot really type too much .... LOL

I have just a year left of school, so I believe after that, I will think about possibly getting into higher gear with this breeding stuff. It's not what Im going to school for, but I love it. It will not be a full time thing, just on the side, aside from my day job :P

yes currently, i have 2 spawning GSM pairs, 1 ocellaris spawner, 1 clarkii spawner, and a banggai brooder. I have a couple other pairs that haven't spawned yet (pink skunks, which are a b@#@$@$# to get spawning, and a tomato pair that is a terror to behold... )...

Ok i'll post again soon..

Hello Ilham,

I just have one loaded question for you. What are your water parameter on the tanks that you have clowns that have spawned?

Thanks,
Martin

so your maroons didnt hit the tile how do you seperate the eggs now? Just take the fish out of that tank and then let the eggs hatch rigth there in that tank? or do you let eggs hatch with parents in the same tank? I have heard that this is more risk?

Elmo it would be great if you would start a post so that we can pick your brain a bit. I am also very interested in breeding clowns and will be setting up a dedicated tank in the near future for my a. oscellaris pair and considering trying to find a mate for my maroon.

Very cool Elmo, Question for you.....How do you keep the fry alive?, or what are you feeding them?. I can't seem to keep my fry alive. I feed them frozen rotifers, but they usually die within 2 to 3 days?.? Should I try live rotifers?

Another question for you....How long will a pair of clowns continue to breed??? Mine started back in April and have not stopped. They produce a bunch of eggs about every 3 weeks. If you remember this thread.
We have eggs!!

If I should feed live rotifers, where can i get some?
Thanks

Have you checked out this website?

http://www.florida-aqua-farms.com

Lots of goodies on there I would suggest getting some phyto and rotifers going....pretty simple/cheap with some 2litre empty soda bottles and an air pump. Any pics of your babies?

Hey all. Sorry for the lack of responses from me....my own fault again...DOOHHH.

Alright, ROcky, those clowns look great, most likely ORA descendants and possibly F3->F7 generations. Black ocellaris clowns here have very shallow gene pools because they're coming from tank-raised brothers/sisters who then have offspring of their own. Not a lot of wild black and white australian ocellaris are coming into the US. There is nothing wrong with that, though, as you will probably not see deformities until F10 (10th generation) if you do decide to raise the babies.

I am currently working to answer some of the questions posed above in a workshop, and will update later on that.

Martin, my spawner tanks have different levels....GSM spawner in the main reef tank (27 gal cube) is at 1.0255 at 80 deg Fah. The other GSM spawner in a 29 gal regular is at 1.022 at 79 deg Fah. The ocellaris spawner in a 10 gal tank is at 1.023 at 81 deg Fah, and the Clarkii pair in a 20 gal tall is at 1.025 as I have a torch coral there that hosts them, and kept at 79 deg Fah.

Patience is big....can't expect clowns to spawn overnight. Only 4 of my pairs are spawners at this moment. I don't expect the pink skunks and tomato pairs to spawn anytime soon. Sometimes I hate the waiting game, but we all run into it sooner or later.

I am currently typing this at work, but will post photos of some actual fry photos later on (top down photos) of Clarkii and GSM babies. These are when they haven't metamorphosized into actual fish yet.

By the way...I am looking for a wild pair of Australian Black Ocellaris...let me know if you see any :P

HAHA, From what I have been hearing you will have an easier time passing an act of congress. I think they have been banned from collection recently. Atleast on darwin island which I believe if memory serves me correctly that is the only place they have been found. BTW the fish I have are not ORA fish

My second guess would be TR in England, or TR in Australia, but more likely England.

Here is one of our Black A. ocellaris.

The original female we had died about a 9 months ago and was immediately replaced with a much smaller juvenile. This one has since turned into the larger dominant one since adding the mate only a few days after the first female died. This one has been paired with the other newer one for 9 months but we have never seen any activity from them.

Wild Auzzy Black Ocellaris do not have orange/brown snouts. That is a nice clown scott.

Yes that one and the other are ORA. They all started out light black with a bright orange face. The last female turned completely black with no orange at all while the male (this one at the time) kept the orange face. After the female passed and the other was added, this one got darker on the face but not totally black. The smaller (male) is now totally black.
