Zoanthid problem

One very large rock that I have covered with zoanthids has a problem.

Joaco mentioned the problem exactly as I see it in the first post in this thread. Read what he quoted.
Is this bacterial on zoanthids?

It's happening very fast some of them have even unattached and I've dipped about 3 zoos out that were just floating around looking rotten. I don't mind losing this rock at all and may even take it to the lfs to trade it in for another rock of the same size just to get rid of the problem. The zoo's on it aren't the nicest and I'm scared it will spread to some of my nice colonies. What should I do?

I would remove it if I were you. I see no reason to take a risk of whatever the problem is spreading to your others. If your not attached to it, get rid of it and sleep easy.

Hello.
Sounds like a bacterial problem to me. Try some coral dip by Seachem. I haven't had it spread to other colonies. It usually happens when some of the polyps are damaged during handling.

HTH,
Kevin

I got rid of the entire rock last night...it wasn't the nicest colony.
What I think happened is this. The rock is located under my center brace and the other day I was trying to get some salt creep off and a piece fell in and landed around that area. I blew it off with a baster but not before quite a few polyps closed. Two days later I notice the problem.

HTH,
Kevin
Kevin when you say try some Seachem do you mean just add some to your tank or take the problem piece out and treat it seperately?

I think it is made to add to water for a dip.

Yeah it's a dip but I've heard scrubbing the infected area and rinsing with FW works just as well

Yeah I believe it is too Scott, my thoughts are wether the contaminent is still in the tank though ? Naturally a dip is best served as a newly introduced item.

I would just pour the FW over the scrubbed area and not mess with the unaffected parts until they show signs of it.
