Aquascaping: Before and After

Well, tomorrow is the big day. My son, daughter and I are gonna pull the rock out and re-scape the tank (take the damsels back to the fish store too). I figured I put up some before shots so you guys can see the difference. Bear in mind, my camera is a little outdated.

Probably too late but you might consider removing a little of the rock and going with a more open look, which I personally think is more appealing.

I actually turned out pretty open, I'll be posting some pic once the water clears. I'm not 100% satisfied, but I don't think I ever will be. Once the corals start filling in, it'll be fine I think.

Pardon the flash. The water was still cloudy and it was the only way I could get something clear. I'm open to suggestions. Despite how some of it looks, it very, very stable.

That looks very good Gary. Do you have any plans to cover the back of the tank?

Thanks. I wish I coulda done a little more. I just really didn't want to get into PVC or anything. I'm probably gonna steal that felt idea from you.

Just in case anyone is wondering, I plan on keeping my softies and future SPS's on seperate sides. Thats why I have a pileup on the left side. I've read that softies and mushrooms should be kept seperate from SPS's. I'm hoping to incorporate a MH on the left side.

Yes one suggestion for ya! Those three fairly big rocks in the middle on the top if you took them out this would give you 2 islands seperated from each other, one island on one side of the tank and one island on the other side of the tank, thus giving you two seperated growing areas one for your softies and the other island for your SPS and you can hang your MH above the SPS island? Besides I think this would look much more spacious and give better swimming area for fish if you had the room in your sump you could put the rocks in there that way you still get the filtration benefit from the LR.

I really don't have the room in my sump for that rock, but I like the idea alot. That would really open it up more. I don't think my system is gonna miss those pieces of rock much. Thanks.

Thanks charlie. The more I look at it, the happier I am with it. I think I'm going to follow Rocky's advice and remove, at least, two of those big rocks.

Maybe what you could do with those rocks is, get a hammer and an old screwdriver, and make some rubble out of them. You never know when you are going to need a piece of rubble for a frag or 2. You could pile them up in a corner of the tank or the sump, they make great cover for pods!!
