Unhappy 1st loss of my 300 project!

Well I came home today to find my purple acro RTNing, all but dead! I knew I was taking a chance with holding my corals in a stock tank. I was in hope that they would not be in there but a few weeks. Its been 4 WEEKS! Thank the lord that I gave and sold most of my corals when I tore down the 180! I will be upset if I have somthing else die!

Sorry to hear of the loss, Martin.
I totally agree with you, the best way to go about a move that take this long is to either have someone "housing" you livestock or simply selling it.
I think the stock tank can work if you really meet all the requirements for the corals but it is hard to do. I know that some people done it, they plan ahead and made those stock tanks with all the gadgets and water flow that any other regular tank would have- lights, water movement and the whole nine yards. Again, real sorry about your loss.
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

A "purple acro" could be any one of the 190 or so species of corals of the genus Acropora that is also purple in color.

    and what does RTNing mean?
It means the coral has a bad case of rapid tissue necrosis (RTN). This is a condition that afflicts mostly Acropora and Montipora corals. The tissue discolors (usually black) and separates from the underlying skeleton within a matter of several hours to one or two days. It can be highly contagious. The consensus of opinion is that it is caused by bacteria but I'm not sure that's proven yet.

Just wondering what caused your coral to die, wrong type of fish?
Nope, nothing to do with fish. Whatever the pathogen is, it often comes in on wild collected specimens of SPS. The best response is to remove the infected piece immediately to prevent other corals from becoming infected. If the infected piece still has some areas that are healthy, it is sometimes possible to cut off frags from the healthy part.
