ID without a picture.....please help.

I hate asking for an ID without a picture, but....

I noticed these little things growing out of my rock.

I thought they were aiptasia at first, but now I'm not so sure. They are too small for my crummy camera to catch.

They seem to be growing in little colonies. They look like a cross between aiptasia and tube worms. They are brownish in color. The arms are very thin and hair-like and they are springing up on the same rock. I counted 3 seperate clusters.

Any ideas?

Feather dusters are a possibility, but so are hydroids.

I also wouldn't rule our Aiptasia either. It will be impossible to ID without a picture so you might try to view pictures of each of these listed and try to ID yourself.

I agree with Steven that Hydroids is a very much a possibility, judging from your description.
Here's a link to images of various Hydroids I found with quick search on the net, just look around and see if anything matches what you have.

I'm at a loss. I looked through every picture of hydroids, aiptasia, feather dusters and tube worms. I can't find anything conclusive....grrrr.

Gary,

Can you borrow a camera from someone? I think it would help a lot if we could see what you are looking at. Otherwise we just stabbing in the dark.

I had the same thought. I'm sure I can scrape one up somewhere. Having an old camera almost feels worse than having no camera.
