Randy, Sometimes those ordinary brown ones color up nicely under the right light and water conditions. I have an acro that was a messy brown and over the last 4 months has started to go more yellow/green. Mind you, the best place to get good sps is from your fellow Reefers who might swap/sell you some frags.
Cheers, Tone
The best place to aquire colorful SPS is from local club meetings. Usually they are only small frags but they are very cheap (sometimes free) and often have been in captivity for a long time. Be sure to ask the owner the type of lighting, placement, and flow it came from and you should have very good results in your tank. Most captive raised SPS frags average about 3/4" - 1" growth a month once they settle in. So with a little patience you will have a good sized colony that needs cutting in about 18 months.
If money is not a problem there are many online small coral farmers that have very colorful corals. this is where I get most of my new additions now. They are rather expensive (IMO) $75-80 a tiny 3/4" frag.
I also buy small brown colonies from wholesale suppliers. They color up about 85% of the time over a period of 90-180 days. Sometimes you will have to move them around quite a bit to find the right lightiing for them. I leave them at the bottom of the tank for the first 30-60 days and see how they do first.

Thanks, can you revile your online coral sources?
Hmmm... "revile" or "reveal"... tough choice.... maybe both?
Bubba
Hmmm... now that the tank is full, I could convert the pool to saltwater...
