Question Fragging a sponge?

Most of the info I find on sponges is all pretty general - many different species, different needs for different species, reproduce asexually and sexually... even found info on using sponges as "glue" for live rock. I even found about mixing sponges in a blender and having them sort out their own type....

My question is: can I frag this baby (see pic)? It's so big and its many branches are just begging me to try to frag it. My only hesitation is I don't want to cause it an injury that might cause infection or death when the attempt might be doomed from the start. Where is Sponge Bob when you need to ask questions like this?!?

P.S. I know better than to ask the species question when I'm talking about sponges.

Hmmm... now that the tank is full, I could convert the pool to saltwater...

According to Robert Fenner, the answer is "yes."

"Though sponges will spread and reproduce asexually on their own, they can be easily "fragged" by cutting off a piece of an established, stable colony and tying it to a piece of rock with a piece of fishing line. This should only be attempted with large-enough colonies and never in conditions that favor micro-algae growth." http://www.wetwebmedia.com/spongesii.htm

Be sure to do this entirely underwater.
