chemical warfare?

I've noticed a free floating 'shroom looking for a home in my 100g tank. Right now, he's nestled in depression in a rock that also has polyps on. The two are right next to each other but are not touching.

Is this anything to worry about?

Possibly, both mushrooms and polyps can be pretty aggressive. Your probably ok unless they touch and even then you might not have problems.

I have parazoanthids and zoanthids touching R. Florida R. Yuma and Discosomas and have no problems.

What should I look for if there is anything going on? What are the signs they're "fighting"?

color changes, no polyp extension or very little tissue expansion or what I would describe as a "wilting" for starters

If your worried stick it in a yougurt cup with bits of rock and a piece of bridal veil over it wait a few weeks, and glue the sucker anywhere.
