Something growing on Flame Scallop

Hola --

I'm not sure where to post this question, but here goes: today, my husband rearranged some of our rocks. Our Flame Scallop has claimed one of them as his home, and the new angle of the rock allows us to now see both sides of the scallop. I noticed that there is something white and spongy growing on the back side of his shell. He closed up for about 2 minutes, allowing me to get a few shots of the this substance.

I tried doing some research, but I haven't seen anything like this. I'm not sure if it's dangerous or not to the scallop. His "flames" are all healthy and colorful . . . he's not given any indication that he is sick.

Any ideas?

If it looks like "white and spongy" then that's probably what it is. I wouldn't worry at all with it especially since the scallop has been living with it for a while. Now keeping the Flame Scallop alive, that's a different story. Typically we do not have enough of a constant food source available for their long term survival.
