Bristleworm

Got a big, and I mean BIG surprise today when I added some rotifers to my 22 gallon reef. It was too much for a bristleworm to refuse. He immediately came out from under a piece of rock looking for a free meal. I saw a small, apr 1 inch long specimen on a rock about 8 months back. He was sort of a reddish white color. Today however, the worm which showed himself was really large. I didnt get to see his whole length but I would estimate him at 5 inches. I dont know if he is the same one I saw months ago as he was a greenish off white colour. Never ceases to amaze me what hitches a ride in on corals I buy. I just moved this tank to my new home two weeks ago and I didnt see him at all during the move

They do grow and reproduce pretty rapidly. It's always nice to get things you didn't intentionally pay for.

Talking

I started out with a dozen 1" long Eurythoe complanata bristleworms that I purchased from Inland Aquatics and in less than two months some of mine had grown to be 7" long! Within six months I had several dozen of them!

Hello,

Believe it or not this just happend to me tonight as well. about 1.5 inches red and black from out of a rock. I do believe it to be a bristleworm.

Do I need to have any concerns?

Thanks,

JW

Almost all of them are beneficial scavengers. There are a few exceptions but the vast majority are good guys.
