To many Bristleworms?

Is it possible to have to many bristleworms in your tank. I know that they're beneficial, but I mean I have tons of them. At any given time I can look into my display or refugium and see at least one.

I don't think so. Since they are scavengers, and we always have available food for them in our systems, the more the merrier!

The reason you can't have too many is because their populations are controlled by the availability of nutrients (detritus). It's impossible for their populations to expand unless there is a food source.

I wouldn't be concerned if I were you unless you think that you have another problem and that the surge in bristleworms is just a symptom of that?

My only concern is that I hope my Orchid Dottyback doesn't eat too many of my bristleworms.

What could be the "other problem" that would result in a ton of bristleworms?

Overfeeding, dead fish, dead snails etc... Like Ninong said, they only populate to a sustainable level, if they are growing like mad, something is causing the population to increase.

An over abundance of waste for them to feed on.

I see at least a dozen or more bristleworms in my tank when I look at it at night with a red flashlight and all of the room lights off. I love them! They are beneficial scavengers.

I don't believe it's possible to have too many of them.

The only time that I can see them as a problem is when they get to the size that Steve Weast had, now that's out of control

Steve Weast's was a eunicid though, not your typical amphinomid bristleworm. Unless you have a eunicid too yours won't get that big. FWIW his is small as they go.

Notice the "white fuzz" under the cowrie? That's where his burrow is. There's one on the cover as well (not visible).
He's just fine and dandy. He even gets room service.

Ninong mentioned above his orchid dottyback eats them... maybe there are other fish that will help you with your "reduction in force"....
