For the most part, that is adequate. If you wanted you could also add some Phytoplankton and depending on the corals, some might actually accept meaty foods.

I think not needed would be a better way to put it. Like Scott said, If you wanted you could also add some Phytoplankton and depending on the corals, some might actually accept meaty foods. I used to feed my open brains meaty food. I had one open brain that swollowed a Yellow tang (no kidding) That's one picture I wish I would have gotten..(before digital camers were big) |

It had probably been in the ROB mouth most of the night and half the day before I found it. I'd say from the shoulders (hmm, do fish have shoulders) down were inside the ROB's mouth. When I pulled it out all that was left of the fish were bones. It reminded me of the cartoons we see when the cat puts a fish in his mouth and pulls out just bones ![]() |

Hello,
It really depends what you plan to keep. For example if you have several LPS corals and no fish then they would need to be fed meaty foods once or twice a week for long term health/growth. Those same corals would do fine if kept in a tank with a moderate fish load, although the growth would be slower. Most soft and hard corals with very small polyps do not require feeding beyond what you feed your fish. HTH, Kevin

The corals you mentioned are "photosynthetic"... feeding becomes more important if you get some non-photosynthetic species.
I feed my tank DT's phytoplankton and oyster eggs about twice a week (or whenever I remember). The phytoplankton is more for the clams than for the coral. I have a small maxima, and although feeding isn't absolutely necessary, the % survival of small maximas increases with feeding. I feed oyster eggs for the goniopora. I have also read that survival increases in this genus with feeding of oyster eggs. Anyway, since I just put the stuff in the tank, I'm assuming the rest of my corals benefit somewhat from the feedings.

I feed small pieces of shrimp and scallops to my LPS and Rics but do it sparingly because they have grown quite large in particular my frogspawn.
I'm curious about those that feed phyto, besides the clams what other corals would eat phyto ? Are corals carnivores herbivores or omnivores ? |

Most corals are carnivores. This is especially true of the ones with large polyps like Torch, Frogspawn, Hammer corals, etc.
Regards, Kevin
