Specific Gravity Question

Currently i have a fish only tank and running gravity at 1.021 is this to low for a FOWLR? Next in about a month im goin to go reef i heard that SG should be around 1.025. Whats the best way in getting my tank up to that level?

You can add saltwater instead of top off water to slowly bring up your S.G.

Yeah, what he said

Your next water change.. mix up the h2o at about 1.023. You could 4 changes before you go reef, you could get a good start on raising it by then.
How big is the tank?

its a 38 gallon with about 10lbs LR with another 25lbs curing right now. I only have 3 fish in there right now and was gonna add one more and thats a flame angel and then just concentrate on adding some corals and things. but i need to get this SG up before i can do the corals.

Around 1.025 - usually between 1.023 and 1.026 is ok.

Get a reliable instrument to measure salinity first.

I agree. Raise your salinity to about 35ppt (1.025-1.026) slowly with your top off water and water changes. Also get a refractometer for teh most accurate measurements. You can get one at many of our sponsors for around $40.

Yup refractometer all the way. And YES I say 1.025 is fine, that is where I keep mine.
