It's a boy! or girl? Shroom had twins!

    Hi all,

Just thought I'd pass along the news. I was looking closely at my mushroom (Actinodiscus nummiformis I think) the other day and noticed two tiny little baby shrooms were sitting nearby. Cool!

You can only see one from the picture. The other is on the inner edge of the same rock facing toward the back of the tank.

How often should I expect somehting like this to happen? I put this mushroom in my tank about 3 months ago.

    Thanks,

    Jason
Help! Do they make a saltwater patch? I think I’m addicted!

Those Discosomas will do that quite often.....in fact I'm now putting them on my troublesome coral list. Congratulations though definately a good sign.

    R.Ph.,

I've got the same mushroom(s) in my tank and they will multiply FAST, but they won't usually grow into other coral. Mine cover almost an entire corner of my tank. They are very pretty when the light hits them just right, brings out the green-blue, but they WILL quickly claim any empty space on your rocks.

    Dig the name, BTW.

I've got quite a few mushroom species, and it's really cool to see them reproduce! If you watch them closely they send out little trailers along the rock over the course of about a week, and then detach.

Just tell your wife that having a tank teaches you all sorts of new DIY skills...which will save lots of money around the house...so you can buy more stuff for your tank...so you can learn more skills...
