Can we say worm!
look at this worm that I pulled from my reef tank. It was longer but it broke. Can anybody tell me what it is and is it bad?

I can't tell you what it is. I can only speculate that it might be a Eunicid. If it is, I can't tell you if it's a threat or not but I would probably not put it back in my reef aquarium.
We could send a photo of it to Dr. Ron Shimek for his opinion but he would want a clear, in-focus closeup of the head. ![]()

I could not get a picture of it's head, it appeared to hae broken off. It did look like a segmented earth worm if that helps. I did flush it.

Pretty funny GUYS! I Pulled the thing out of a rock and I KNOW IT WILL NOT HURT ME, but..... I grabbed the plastic fork to grab it (didn't want to touch it)and also show size comparison. as for the cutting board, it was white for the picture

that is pretty amazing. Look at it this way, if you go fishing, at least you won't need bait for about 3 years.

That is pretty good, but no where near that SIX FOOTER mentioned in another thread! I have never pulled any the size of yours out of my tank, much less a SIX FOOT worm!

Well, John doesn't win for size, but he wins for photographic composition. The fork and cutting board got lots of extra points from me!

my other question is.. Since I did not get his head ( i think most of it) it dissapeared into a piece of live rock, will it still grow? or did I kill it. This all started because I had 2 engineer gobies that were about 12 inches but then one dissapeared, Then the bigger came out for food missing half its tail! Then he dissapeared. Then I lost 2 chromis, dissapeared. I then lost my dragon wrasse, dissapeared. I couldn't take it any more. I set out looking for the killer, maybe a mantis shrimp or crab. I started taking a part my reef. The only thing I found was that worm ,no crabs or shrimp. I know there is some big predator still in there.

I agree with you that the worm didn't kill any of your fish. It's possible for segments of polychaetes to survive and regrow even a new head. Each segment is sorta like a separate entity. Chances are good that whatever is left will survive.
Good luck! ![]()
