LR out of water
How long is it ok to have live rock out of water?

It can go for a few days as long as it is kept moist/wet just as when it is shipped. If you are just working on the tank and need to set it aside, I would still want it kept underwater which is easily done with a few buckets and a bit of tank water. Of course if there are sponges that have colonized the rock, exposing them to air even for a moment could kill them. So I suppose the correct answer would be.... It depends on what is living on the rock.
