    ID of anemone please

I was wondering if this could be ID'd. This is the same anemone I have had for many years. ( it was also the sick one from the post last year, it made it) I keep looking around and I think it's a long tenacle but it clones itself and to my knowledge LTA do not do this. It has never looked like a BTA. It does have some white lines around the "mouth". The color stays brownish and you can see greenish tips on the legs. It has always liked to attach to the rocks and not the substrate. I have seen it as big as 10 inches but seems to stay about 6-8 inches then it will split.
    Any suggestions?

Have you checked Dr. Fautin's ebook for the descriptions of the various clownfish-hosting anemones? Here's the link but unfortunately it's down right now. Maybe it will come back up later.

Appearances are often deceiving because sometimes Entacmaea quadricolor has obvious bulbous tips on its tentacles and other times it doesn't. There is one way to rule it in or out and that is that E. quadricolor has no verrucae on its column and all of the other clownfish-hosting anemones do.

It had been actually down for quite some time now, Ninong. I think I'll ask Ron if Dr.Fautin still maintains this site or if it is down for good. I sure hope not.

Marxman, it is very interesting anemone you got there, and I tend to agree that it does look a lot like the M.doreensis. I also know that E.quadricolor has no coloration on the tips of the tentacles but it is not a good indicator for indentifiction. Like Ninong had indicated, I think if you would post a picture showing the column of anemone we could probably have a better chance to id it for you.
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

    Gene,

It has been up and down for a long time now but it was certainly up last night when I used it to compare photos of Amphiprion clarkii with A. sebae in preparation of my post here.

Yes, it had been up and down for a while but lately it was more down than up... I was just wondering if she gave up on that site or not.
BTW, you were right about those clownfish, I think they ar definately pair of Clark's anemonefish and not sebae.
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

After all the looking I have done the closest anemone I could find was a Heteractis Aurora. Could I still be wrong?

You can definitely eliminate Heteractis aurora. It's positively not that. Can you describe the verrucae on its column? I assume it has some since you're considering Heteractis.

I definately agree with Ninong as well, it is certainly not H.aurora.

    John,
Here's a link to the picture of H.aurora where you can see why it is called commonly beaded anemone. Yours have long, tapered tentacles and Aurora anemones have short and much more numerous tentacles with small beads-like bubbles on them, hence the common name of beaded anemone.

And since the other site is down, here's another link with descriptions of the H.aurora.

Well, my tank in doing much better and all the corals and anemone are growing. I have come to the conclusion that the anemone is a BTA. It does show signs of having bulbs on the ends every now and then. Just so you know it has doubled in size since I got my water parameters in check.

    I agree. It's a BTA.

It looks like my BTA... which also has different colored tips. I kept quiet because I don't know a heck of a lot about differentiating anemone species.

Hmmm... now that the tank is full, I could convert the pool to saltwater...
