    micro bubbles

I cannot get rid of them!! Have any of you ever beat them. I'm tired of the damn turkey baster! All I have on the 55 is a skilter and a hang on fuge. I never had them before and now I can't get rid of them. To top all they a pissing of some of my sofites. I have to blow they off daily. I have tried turning off everything separately and nothing works. Could it be a combination? Also for some reason they do not accumulate at overnight?? The only thing that is off at night is the lights and the powerheads? No way that could form micro bubbles. Well I'm at the end of my reef rope HELP!!

I have a question: how deep is your sand bed? I think your bubbles might be comming from the sand bed, and are accually nitrogen gas. You sand bed turns the nitrate in the water into nitrogen gas, whitch might be what is building up on the softies. keep your water flow on at night. Also maybe.....what kind of powerheads are you ising, like whatflow rate? and how many? you want, i believe, is about 15 times the flow according to the gallon size of your tank every hour.

I have a 4-5 inch DSB. I only have two powerheads one is a maix jet 400 and the other is a some 200 gph knock off. Should I keep both on at night? what so you think is causing the nitrogen bulid up? Do I need nore flow? closer to the dsb? What you say makes sense because I have been unable to locate a mechanical cause. Should I add another maxi 400 (I've got one) what will solve the problem?????
    Thanks,

Yes the more flow you have, granted too much can be bad, but for a reef you want a good amount of flow. now the maxi jet 400 is only about 100-110gph and with the 200gph pump equals 300gph thats only a little over 6 times the flow of your 55 gallon tank. i would reccomend you up the flow in your tank by almost twice as much, that should help. let me know how it works

I have a maxi 1200 as well whould that be better? Also do I need more flow down towards the DSB or just mid tank range like the others. Should this ,in theory, fix the problem. I haver also noticed that my leather is loath to open recently. Are the bubbles to blame?

have your two smaller powerheads closer at the bottem and have the 1200 at the top if you can try to mount it in the middle of the back glass of your tank pointed to the front of the tank that should give you enough flow. id say check you water quality as far as the coral goes.

    Yo Ceasar, Wassup!

If they are appearing suddenly and nothing has changed, you have to look at the equipment. Your not running a sump so it either has to be the fuge or the skilter ( ). Can you put some filter floss in front of the output of the fuge for a couple of days to see if they reduce? As for the skilter, you can just turn it off....for good. It's not doing enough for the electricity it is consuming.

Hey Scott, Long time old firend. I've been watching extra close and I believe that Josh is right. It started when I added a few more softies and increased the bio-load. Small bubbles seem to be coming up from the DSB. However the adding of the powerhead has done little. Would sandbed clams or worms stop the nitrogen gas problem. Simply more activity in and around the DSB?? Should I go to indo-pacific?Where should I go, what should I get, or is there some other solution. PS its good to be back.........the lone Republican Reefer, ninong has surely missed me ;)
