Last Visited - 3-25-2003 -- WOW!

So, I knew it had been a long, long, long time since I'd logged on to reefland, but I didn't think almost 3 years... I have excuses, but I won't bore you with 'em.

Hello again to all of you who helped me start my tank 5 years ago or so... here's what it looks like now. Thanks for looking... I won't be so much of a stranger.

Looks nice Rob, but I say you have a strong case for a BIGGER tank!

Hi RobG, welcome back my friend! Your tank looks spectacular. Have you experienced any problems with your few acro's mixed in with all of those huge leathers?

The wife doesn't seem to think I have a strong case for a bigger tank Actually, I'm working on her... the house we moved into recently has a dining room that shares a wall with the garage. I've been pitching setting up an in-wall (in-garage) tank... she likes the idea... but it won't be cheap.

The biggest problem I've found with the leather's and acros is shade... those leathers grow so fast under the light (2x250W 10K MH and 2x110W Actinic) that they have to be trimmed/completely removed on a regular basis. I lost one green monti. capricornis in the last year, but it lost a war with that purple acro in the front of the tank...

That sounds like a perfect place for a new tank! If she asks, tell her that people at Reefland think you should do it too.

I just want to hug your giant leather.

I actually figured it would be good for the tank and the lights would do most of the heating. It gets down to about 40 degrees in the garage at night in the winter... I'd need heaters definitely but I didn't think it would be too much of an issue.

I have two friends in the Denver co, area with tanks in the garage. The only thing they have had to do is try to keep the room warm in the winter so that the MH bulbs wount burst when firering up.

Rob you could insulate your room in the garage to help hold in the heat in the winter.

Would exhaust fumes from the cars ( and other misc. stuff) in the garage affect a reef tank? Just curious.

They could, yes... but only if you have enough room in your garage for the car!

I hadn't thought about the fumes issue... I would think that if I built a small "room" in the garage that it wouldn't be a problem. Its not like I leave the car running with the garage door closed.
