i do not believe any of the above options are good ones as i am from the state of mind that anyting that can be removed should be before being broken down. a huge skimmer is the best friend of any reef aquarist and should be used as a main filter/gunk remover before any of the nutrients can be broken down. to use a refug as a primary filter can be done but by difiniton it is not a filter but a place where things can be done without distrubance by the main tank inhabitants. some people use a fuge for a type of algal scrubber. although i dont have a problem with this i do not believe that it is the primary job or benifit of having one. a fuge used for growing pods and the like is most common and works well to suplement the feeding done by the caretaker. just my opinion of corse.

Is it me or did my main question just get blowed off. The poll wasn't that important. i just wanted to know other aquarists opinions. But I have a question so don't waste your time preaching about your filtration opinions. I don't want to sound harsh or anything; I am just speaking my mind.

But can someone give me advice about my question not the poll.

micro bubles are somtimes problimatic and if they are sticking to your animals it is a problem but if there just moving around the tank then it should be ok. natural enviroments have bubbles in them especialy in the tidal zone.

My two skimmers usually put microbubbles into the tank and I haven't noticed any ill effects. However, I think there's a relationship with putting all that CO2 into the water and the pH, alkalinity, and calcium levels. I believe it promotes the formation of calcium carbonate and drops alkalinity and pH. Someone correct me if I'm wrong... It's not a big deal for me because I dose kalkwasser (not full strength- not enough coral) 24/7 to replace evaporation.

Yeah I don't think it will affect me to much calcium wise becuase I do daily dosages of calcium and alk./buffer which adds all that good stuff. I am just worried about the bubbles sticking to the corals.

Re: Question about Bio Wheel with Reef?

the bubbles produced by your bio-wheel will not likely harm anything, but the nitrates produced by your bio-wheel likely will

Re: Question about Bio Wheel with Reef?

I posted this question over a year ago when I was first getting into the hobby so I am all set now.

I was re-reading the thread and I couldn't believe how much of a jerk I was with my second post. I am ashamed of myself for being so rude.

Thanks
