    the ultimate question...

not really the ultimate question...but,would it be ok to wash old filter bags in the washing machine with no detergent, just hot water?
[COLOR="black"]my filter, if you could call it that, basically consists of this micro filter bag(no carbon) in wich the overflow water flows into, then into the sump. i also have a skimmer. the water is then pumped back up to the main tank. the lfs guys told me to use this method along with live rock and it seems to be woking quite well. the only thing is, i have to either wash the bag or replace it about twice a month. i hate cleaning them so i usually just replace it with a new one. its getting kinda expensive @ $12.00 a bag.

also, i really want to add some acropora and montipora corals,do you think this type of filteration is ok for that?

Ideally, you would be changing those bags out every other day. They are be washed in a machine with bleach and reused. Just air dry for one day after washing to be rid of any bleach residue.

Try www.filterbag.com . I get my filter bags for about $2 a piece (in lots of 50).

Hmmm... now that the tank is full, I could convert the pool to saltwater...

the bags im using now are found here http://www.emperoraquatics.com/aquamedia.php - product #10136. guess you have to be an authorized dealer to get them.
Bubba, are the bags you use similar to these bags?

Hey optical! So what store did you end up deciding on?

Just tell your wife that having a tank teaches you all sorts of new DIY skills...which will save lots of money around the house...so you can buy more stuff for your tank...so you can learn more skills...
