Marshall Island

I just purchased some Marshall Island rock and it doesn't have much coralline algae. Before I put it in my tank, what should I do? Should I scrub it, should I just put it in, etc...
I want it covered and know it will take time but it is coming out of a tank that has been up for a long time.

There is no green algae on it.

if it is comming out of an established tank then it has already been cured so i think there is little reason to scrub the rock. the reason it is checked during inport is due to sponges etc. that die off and put off a lot of pollutants. i would recomend getting it in your tank fast to reduce as much die off as possable. to get a lot of coraline growth i have herd a lot of people recomend a two part calcium supplement like b-ionic.

Is your tank new or established? Did you buy it online in a box, or did it come from an established tank? There are so many variables that I can't answer your question with all the elements.

Also John, you HAVE TO maintain Ca and Alk levels to get coralline growth, and you can do that many different ways, but I find pickling lime to be most effective for me. It is "kalkwasser" only at a FRACTION of the cost.

b-ionic is a two part soulution which maintains both. its a personal thing how to do this and there are many diffrent ways like many things in this hobby, i have seen good results with almost all but using this is so simple.
