    Unhappy courting catastrophe

2 days ago I made a horrible mistake, putting rid ich, a malacite green salt in my tank to treat a royal tang. Almost immediately the clams closed up, I realized the error, and did a partial h20 change twice in 12 hrs another 12 hours later, and another 24 after that. The clams and soft corals arehanging tough , but all the hard corals have whitened out. Protein skimmer is on, I put 2 poly filters inline. Today the water is less cloudy. Any advice? Should I just hang wiith it to see if the corals recover? Are daily water changes a good thing in this situation? 120 gallon system
    Thanks.

First and foremost WELCOME!! To Reefland!!
OUCH! Yes you will be ok if you have salt water all mix up and ready to go that has beed sitting with a powerhead and up to temp for a few days.

I dont mean to be a jerk but NEVER put MED in a show tank ONLY in a QUARENTINE TANK! JMHO!

    Good luck,
    Martin

    Hi docthom,

Sorry to hear about the mistake, for what it;s worth it happens to the best of us. I mean the mistake part.
I would continue with the water changes but probably not daily, give those polyfilters a chance as well and replace them after couple of days.
The only product I ever used in a reef tank( in the early days) was Kick-Ich, which claims to be reef safe, and I didn;t have any issues then with the corals being affected by it. I would, however, heed Martin's advice for the future and never use any of this products in a display tank. Steven Pro had written couple of articles on the subject of marine Ich and treatments that are available.

    Hi docthom,

The only other thing you might try is running some carbon.

When a coral bleaches, it can come back or it could not come back.... no way to predict. You have to wait and see. Sorry for your problems... we have all been there and done big mistakes. The only way not to make mistakes is to quit trying. Hang in there.

Hmmm... now that the tank is full, I could convert the pool to saltwater...
