Xenia Loose

Greetings Reefland, A week ago I purshased a small xenia from the LFS. It has been doing reat in the tank for the last six days. All of the 10 or so pom poms have opened. Last night, much to my dismay, it had released itself cleanly from the rock that it was attached to. I quickly caught it in the water column and placed it in a shallow cup partially filled with coral rubble in the hopes that it will attach itself to one of the pieces of rubble. There were no tears ot visible distress to the stalk of the coral. Does anyone here have any suggestions as to what I should do differently? I have been wanting one of these softies for quite a long time and it breaks my heart that this has happened.

Thanks
Reggiepe

Xenia likes low flow and sometimes will release when subjected to high water flow. You can pinch the coral between two pieces of live rock to hold it in place. Most species are quite hardy and prolific to the point of becoming a nuisance.

Regards,
Kevin

Thanks, Kevin. I will give that a try. I am kind of hoping that it does well enough to become a nuisance. Most fish stores that carry anything that is worth taking home is 2 hours away. I would love to frag these and get a return on investment for some of the other things I have purchased at way too inflated prices.

thanks again,

Reggiepe
