anemone question

just as I was about to buy one BTA I read this article posted here by someone which states some expert telling that no one has ever kept an anemone alive in aquarium for more than a year.
is there anyone out there who has kept anemone sucsessfully for more than an year?
also the article suggests water temp for them to be between 80- 83 deg centigrade .. isnt it too warm for the corals and fish ?

I have had my anemone for over 6 years. It has split several times and is doing fine. I also keep my temp at 80.

I have had my RBTA for 2 years now and no problems. I hope you mean 80-83 F!!!!!!!!!
In fact, I think that 83 is really pushing the limits.

In the lab we have some BTA's from the Waikiki Aquarium have been kept in captivity continuously since 1988. I've personally kept one for over 2 years.

83F is the worldwide average temperature for areas where coral reefs are found, so no it's not too hot except for species from colder, more extreme reefs.

Can you please tell us which article it was? I can't imagine anyone suggesting that 80-83 degrees centigrade would be the optimal temperature for any aquatic animal. Perhaps the temperature was recommended in fahrenheit?
And, there are many documented cases where anemone was kept in captivity for far more than a year, so again, I can't see anyone stating that no one ever kept it for more than a year.

PS. My own BTA had been in my tank since 2002 and had produce numerous clones.

also I have a question for all you guys who kept anemone for so long .. I am planing to keep both anemone and corals in my tank and I am planning to put the anemone (BTA and green carpet ) first and let it settle down for a week or so and then introduce corals. .. what do you think? also anyone of you out there is keeping both anemone and corals together..? whats your experience and how did you manage to keep both?

First off, I hate to be pessimistic, but I would not be adding any anenome to a new tank. IME, and I have done what you are going to do, you are asking for trouble. I would add a couple of small fish first and let things settle for a good 2-3 months before adding anything else.
How big is your tank, and how long has it been set up? Answers to these questions will help us out alot in giving you advice.
Just trying to help you prevent what so many of us have done, and that is rush things along.

If you are intent on keeping an anemone, I suggest one Entacmaea quadricolor (BTA) for your 90-gal tank, but only after it has been set up for at least six months. It is important that the tank be somewhat mature before you try to keep an anemone.

I wouldn't recommend any of the three different species of carpet anemones for a 90-gal tank. All of them get MUCH too big for such a small tank.

Here is a good article on anemones.
