what do need for a refugium?

right now, i have a non-reef ready 40g high....a fluval canister & skilter

i would like to keep what i have, but add a refugium....for that i have one those cheapie complete set-up 10g tanks....what else will i need?

1. You need a way to connect the two tanks so water can flow back and forth between the two.
2. You need substrate (sand or mud) for the refugium.
3. You need organisms (plants or animals - whatever you want to keep in your refugium).

Hmmm... now that the tank is full, I could convert the pool to saltwater...

my plan is to try to get more copepods for a mandarin...and add volume to my exsisting tank

so, do i put the lr and ls in there and cycle it first, like i am setting up a separate tank?

how do you get copepods from the fuge to the main though?

To get the copepods into the main tank, you'd ideally want to set up the refugium above the main tank and let gravity carry the water (and copepods) down to the main tank without going through a pump.

I just took a few pieces of cured live rock out of my main tank and put them in the 'fuge when I set it up (and I used some sorta CaribSea mud-like stuff for substrate). Since the rock came outta the main tank, I didn't worry about curing or cycling.
