who has unlevel tanks?

Just finished setting up my 125 and it is about 1/4 inch unlevel. Ive been researching this with some interesting inputs, so just wondering who out there has an unlevel tank, how much, how long its been that way, and how large the tank is? I will be empting the tank this weekend and re leveling.

Well, you're making progress because two days ago the water level was 1/2" difference left to right.

Did you ask about this on Robert Fenner's site yesterday? If not, someone else just asked the same question (1/4" difference) about the same size tank:

New 125 not level - 4/11/2006
Ok ive done a search but Im still unsure what to do here. I just finished putting up my new 125 gallon transferring corals fish rock from my old 55. Got it full and realized I am a little over 1/4 inch off level from left to right. front to back is ok. I did shim a little on the front right but still not good.

So how serious of a problem is this?
<Could be real trouble>

should I address immediately or am I ok for a while to see if it settles some? Should I completely drain or am I ok. Not sure what to do and how soon?
<If it were me/mine, I'd empty, re-level and use a bit of support material as detailed on WWM. Fix your English before mailing us please. Bob Fenner>

As I posted in my reply to your previous thread, a 1/2" difference left to right is a major issue that would have to be dealt with immediately before proceeding. Getting it to 1/4" is a big improvement but that's still a greater difference than the 1/8" difference that I have always read is the maximum acceptable. Fenner, in case you don't already know, has been in the business for decades.

On a different note, i thought the english in that article was fine. Grammar a bit off, but english completely comprehendable...maybe its the inherent disadvantage of the internet/email mode of communication but that seemed a little harsh to me...just my 2 cents during an episode of insomnia.

Yes that was me who posted to wwm crew. I to was a little surprised at his English remark, but I was hurried when I sent it and had no time for proof reading. I two didnt see much wrong with my English, just a few ms and a small grammar thing. Oh well mabey he was having a bad day. I do respect his opinion tho and will be releveling this weekend. The reason for the new post was due to researching this. As in many situations in this hobby there always seems to be several answers, so I was just curious how many people have had or has this problem, and did they fixi t or live with it? I personally couldnt sleep easy if I didnt remedy it. I am not an Enlgish major, author or claim to have perfect grammar so please diregard any mistakes.

Randymon, I hope you don't mind my feeble attempt at humor above. Actually I was making a point that spoken and written English sometimes are not the same. On the other hand, I also hope you don't mind my helpful suggestion - all of the posting boxes on Reefland in the upper right corner have a Spell Check button (the "ABC [check mark]" icon). I know it has been very helpful to me.

Bubba.

Not at all Bubba> I didnt even take Bobs remark to heart. Life is way to short to let something like this bother me. My remark about not being perfect was also just my sense of humor. Thanks everyone for your suggestions, but I am still curious about unlevel tanks. Has anyone had a major mishap due to this?
Also there are many different takes on the stand shimming, that it fixes one problem but causes another. Sorry everyone but I am just trying to figure out the best way to deal with this hopefully without taking everything down.

If any shimming to be done, I would recommend using steel shims that could be found at any plumbing supply house. And, if you don't have any livestock in the tank, I would recommend draining it enough so it could be leveled easily. I had emptied my 75g tank halfway to be able to shim it, with no rock or sand it was easy enough to manuver.
