hatching brine shrimp in refugium

can you hatch brines in a refugium ?? seems like a good home... any luck????thanks

Yes you can, but why would you do that and risk passing a bad bacteria to your tank from the cysts? The cysts can, and sometimes do harbor bacteria that can damage your system severely. Also, the empty cysts can wreak havoc with some fish, getting caught in their digestive tracts.
I don't know how you plan to keep the cysts in the refugium because the cysts, and any nauplii that manage to hatch out, will be swept up by the circulation and moved throughout the tank.
The brine shrimp nauplii will be eaten in fairly quick order so you won't have to worry about feeding them to get them larger.

I grew a few in my tank as a cycling agent - they'll be long dead before the fish go in. 24-48 hours after hatching some nauplii are still visble - even though the recirculation system is in full flow at 1200 litres per hour. (I don't have a micro filter system running yet).

However, I'm concerned about that action now I read about bad bacteria... <sweats profusely>
