Yes, many of us are familiar with this product. It has been discussed for the past few years now on reefkeeping bulletin boards all over the world.
The consensus of opinion among informed people is that it is bogus. The explanation given by the manufacturer is hilarious. It reminds of the claims made for kaballah water. That being said, every time one of these threads is started, people will pop up claiming that they use the product and they believe it works. People believe men have never landed on the moon, too. And some people still believe the Earth is flat. They really do. There are more than 100 threads on the topic on Reef Central. The best one is in the restricted Team Reef Central Forum but here is one from more than three years ago in Dr. Randy Holmes-Farley's Chemistry Forum that will give you an idea of what is discussed in the other threads. Besides the 100 plus threads on Reef Central, there are threads on Reefs.org on this product that go back three years. Here's a 20-page thread from July 2003 on Reefs.org. The original lengthy thread was on a Dutch reefkeeping bulletin board and I believe it was started in late 2002 or early 2003. Some of the posts from the Dutch board are included in the TRC forum post on RC. ![]() P.S. -- You may find this informative.

Ninong, do you add Instant Ocean to the kaballah water before you do a 10% water change with it, or do you just use it for top off?

Snake Oil!
People claim to know the guy on the grassy knoll; to have seen Elvis; that UFOs exist; that the world is 6000 years old and so on.
If you present an argument with honest feeling and authority, some people will belive you: particuarly if you offer them an easy answer. People are like fluids, we usually take the easy route. The "science" behind this invention sounds a little suspect to me. Ionising the O2 from the water molecules - what using magnets? Um... The only way I know to do that is to pass a current through the water directly. And what's this, NASA has discovered infra-red... What, NASA discovered if you put a heated coil through in water ... it bubbles! AH, NASA invented the electric kettle! My website fights all sorts of nonsense science, but a lot of my American colleagues will find it pretty offensive since around 50% of you actually believe evolution is the devil's work. (It's not offensive to many Americans, just the ones who think the world is only a few thousand years old). PT Barnum said, "There's a fool born every minute." and the terrible thing is that he was right. Ninong provides this http://www.inlandreef.com/Testing/EcoTest.html link which is a proper scientific test - but I won't spoil what amounts to a rather enlightening read.

You mean you can still see them? I'll be. I was thinking of the gotcha that none of the conspiracy theorists want to talk about: the mirror that ground observatories bounce lasers off!
If you want a conspiracy - a real one - you don't have to look very far; and it's so old that many now just accept as fact, even though there are more holes in it than a well aerated sand bed. Challenge a conspirator in the US and you'll most likely find yourself a social outcast - in other parts of the world, you can lose your life!

Sorry Mike. Did you mean I got you on the really big conspiracy? (One faction of its promoters is really quite cross about being "misrepresented" on the big screen in the DaVinci Code).
Or, did you mean the mirror on the moon that some brave American chaps stuck there (to measure the mean earth-moon distance very accurately IIRC). The conspiracy theorists really do make some scary claims - even though they fail to stand up to close examination. I really hope Skriz was talking tounge-in-cheek, but I rather suspect he might believe the naysayers.

It was the mirror on the moon, I didn't realize that was up there. I had a co-worker years ago that owns a 24" reflecting scope. He said he could make out shadows and dark spots in the Sea of tranquility, but as far as seeing actual details, I think an even LARGER scope is required. (Last I spoke to Tom was YEARS ago now, so I don't know if anything is still visible or not.)

Boy we sure have gone a LONG way from the OT! Sorry Ceasar!
I think you get the idea though, if the product brought up conspiracy theories, and lunar landers, it just CAN'T be any good! |

We sure have wandered a bit!
Worse than that. It's bad since you get lured into using it and probably end up losing a lot of livestock and wondering why. This sort of thing should be banned! If it were advertised like in where I live our ASA would shut it down in a instant.
