ready to smash my filter

my filter has a slight leak, well its not that the filter itself is leaking, one of the tubes that connects into the filter it constantly dripping water, to the point of ridiulous, i have a tape line on my tank (normal scotch tape) which i fill the water to the top of, i topped it off at about 4:35pm today and I got home and it was half way down on the tape line, I am so pissed off, and it seems that there is no way to fix it, clamping it wouldn't work, and eheim doesn't even HAVE a help line (damn germans (just kidding) its leaking in small drips, and i have it in a little plastic take out container from applebees right now, and its holding the water, but when i go to pull the filter out, to empty the container, I know that the hose will burst off and water will go flying everywhere (gallons and gallons at a time) this whole experience is making , what was a good and interesting experience, a pain in the a**, please help me..if you can. oh i have an eheim 2213 canister filter.

Can you seal it with silicone tank glue? Then put on a quick disconnect somewhere near.

I hate canister filters... really loathe them actually. And the only canister worth anything is the magnum, but I hate them too (well, I have some sentimental love for them, but that's it!).

If you ask me, they're worthless except for running carbon or diatom powder. Just get a protein skimmer and put the canister filter in the closet for a rainy day.

Ive got to say I love my Fluvals, they are the second Gen not the third wich are crap. But I only run them on FreshH2o plant systems, they function wonderfully as a "Peat Bomb", and I dont think I would ever consider running a canister on a salt system. I would also add that in my opinion about the only thing a magnum is usefull for is running diatom powder.

As for what a skimmer costs that would depend on the size of your system.
But for a ball park estimate you could spend anywhere from 200-300 dollars for a pretty nice skimmer, of course you could go cheap but that really depends more on your tank and what your trying to keep in it.

IMO

Canister filters don't remove anything from the water, they just condense it into one place (i.e. filter pads) where it just decays and the canister becomes a phosphate factory. You need to be diligent about cleaning these things quite often, and after a while people tend to slack off. Plenty of LR and a good skimmer is all that you should need.

whoa whoa whoa...hold the phone!
Am i hearing this right....I don't actually need my Fluval?
I have a protein skimmer, (bakpak 2) and a fluval 204. While I noticed that the fluval really doesn't clean up anything major, I've found it's a good source of water flow.

Interesting....looks like I'll have to do some more research!
