Scott,
I found 4 outlets on a Mak4, to many and the flow diffused a fair bit. Unless thats what your looking for or they will run at different times via the valves. Now that 4500gph I mentioned, had plenty for 4 outlets but @ around 300watts compared with 110w for a Mak4. I guess with 4 and valves, you could experiment lots anyways.

Time for a new picture.
![]() We added 50 lbs of Bali Alor liverock on Tuesday and this is great rock. I wish I would have taken some picture right of the box. It had beautiful pinks and purples out of the box, of course it is bleached now from the trip. This is fresh rock right from Bali so the tank will sit as-is for a few months with nothing being added. |

Scott, is there a way you could maybe get some top down pics of that rock?? That really looks like it has some nice shapes to it. Where did you get it from?

Yeah the next time I shut down the pumps I'll snap one for the top. It is really nice rock, a bit on the pricey side but well worth it. Check out www.fragfarmer.com (shameless plug for a site I recently built).

Thanx, nice job. According to your other post, maybe you should have a gas mask.

Hey charlie,
I know I still owe you a top down shot but I did take a nice one that really shows the shape of this rock. We have a ton of little pods around the tank and are starting to see some nusiance algae from teh nutrients, but that is to be expected with this fresh rock. Where you see the bright white bleached coralline, there was once the brightest pink coralline I have seen. I hope it returns one day. ![]() |

Grapefruit size and larger. There were no small pieces, only a few rubble pieces that broke from teh rock during transit.
Here is another picture for you. |

The way the rock is shaped, there are not many points touching the bottom, I like that. Just let it ride Scott, that is gonna be a nice set up.

Hi Scott,
Looking great About that Mag 18. Have you tried to run it in a tub? You may just have too long of a pipe on the suction side. If you run it in a tub of water without any tube on the intake and it is quiet then you can eliminate the impeller as the problem. If the suction side pipe is longer than 12" you will need to increase the size of the suction pipe to 2" to prevent cavitation of the pump. HTH, Kevin

It's going to be a long 2 months though Charlie. That is the mark I have set on the wall that I have to reach without adding anything else to the tank; livestock eise. During this time I am going to figure out a closed loop system for this tank.
Here is another picture that shows the openess of the rock structure. You can see, as you mentioned, that there is plenty of space under the rock to keep the tank clean. ![]() |

Hey Kevin,
I ran the pump in the tank with no input or output PVC and the pump still made the loud noise. The only time it stops is if I put a ball valve on the output and close it more than 50%. I inspected the impellar pretty closely and could not see anything, of course you can't see much more than the blades and magnet on it. |

Scott,
It should be under warranty. If not I can send you a new impeller. Regards, Kevin

It's an older pump so the warranty is definitely out. I have already relaced the impellar and housing once. I tried this pump on a closed loop a long time ago and was not successful, except in breaking the impellar. So I purchased a new impellar and housing, and ran the pump on our skimmer for over a year with no problems. When we moved, the pump was working flawlessly. When I cranked it on for this project, I got the terrible noise. Perhaps something happened with the impellar during the move?

Hey Scott, what did you finally do regarding your ejector pit and pump situation? I am planning an in wall tank in my basement and was just told I'll need an ejector pump. So what do we do in these cases? The entire purpose of an equipment room is to make it so that we don't have to carry buckets of SW back and forth...
Also, on another note I'm not seeing the normal links to additional pages etc in this thread. I had to go back to the forum page that lists the threads and click on page 2 there...and still found there were more posts than i see normally. it wasn't until i clicked on "reply to post" at the TOP of the thread that I saw the rest. it seems to be just this thread. what gives?

Thanks. I see that now..weird stuff happening, but I'll start a thread in the proper forum on that.
Is that pump significantly different from one at HD or Lowes? I am having a bathroom put in the basement and wondering if I need to have them order a special pump that won't corrode when I dump 40G of SW every other week. BTW, the tank looks awesome. I hope I have your patience when I start to set mine up.

No, the pump is no different than a sump pump, or sewage pump at Lowes or HD, just a lot cheaper.
