Brown Jelly infection

this stuff sucks!
i recently put a friends Euphyllia glabrescens in my tank because it wasnt doing well in his, due to what we thought were low lighting conditions.
one of the heads on it was looking ill and almost completely withered away.
the next day it was covered in brown jelly and the day after that it was just a skeleton. the rest of the branches on it are now doing good.
this was a couple weeks ago.
a few days ago my torch E. glabrescens started getting black spots on the polyps and developed brown jelly on a couple of the heads. i tried to fan it off but it was too late for one branch. it killed it so fast! water and temp perameters are all good. i cut the dead branch off, and now it is infecting another branch!
can i do a fresh water dip using tap water if i match the ph with the tank water? there is chlorine in it but not high amounts.
is brown jelly something that is introduced in the tank by bacteria (like the addition of an already infected torch coral) or can it occur at any time with stressfull conditions?
all the other corals are rockin but i hope this stuff wont infect all my lps!
any suggestions?

Coral dips such as Lugol's that are Iodine based are very effective against brown jelly infections. Seachem also makes a dip. Brown jelly infections can be very contagious especially if you fan the coral and it drifts on to another coral/head. IME brown jelly usually happens at elevated temperatures and or in the presence of high DOC's. A large water change (40-50%) and temperature below 80F are what I would recommend.

HTH,
Kevin
