Is this a good idea or simply bad?

So, as you can tell, i've been thinking quite a bit about my tank these days. Aside from getting a RO/DI unit or even contemplating a bigger tank, I am actually moving my tank tommorrow. From my previous post, I been having this brown grainy algae problem that just can't leave my crush coral bed alone.

Last night, as I was rolling around in bed trying to sleep, I thought of re-setting the system by changing out the crush coral bed when I move the tank, perhaps to a DSB.

What do you guys think about this idea? is it dangerous? how long should I wait before putting livestock back in the tank? any precautions I should take? what kind/brand of sand do you guys recommend or should i just get new crushed coral.

The tank is small (26g), but very established (more than 4 years) and has 50lb of premium LR.

TIA

How did your move go?

Did you find out what that brown 'stuff' is? Has it ever been examined under a microscope?

the move went great. the brown grainy algae is gone and so is the crush coral bed. I switched it out for a sand bed.

nope, didn't see the algae under microscope . . . oh well.
