Underwater epoxy
Can anyone recomend a good underwater epoxy? I would like to glue some frags underwater and would like to find something that works well underwater and does not weld the frag to the rock...incase I ever need to remove the frag due to a death or overgrowth in the future.
I have tried gel superglue, rubber epoxy and this stick that was supposed to turn the color of coroline algae when it dried...I did not like any of these solutions. I have read about this pond epoxy that some people have liked. Can anyone comment? |

So far the best thing I've found is superglue, but it's only marginal at best for glueing underwater. I put a huge glob on the frag, then rub the glue/frag on the spot where I want it, so that it breaks up the film that has already formed.

Any kind of a frag, a small polyp rock or maybe a devils hand coral etc.
When I tried superglue gel, it just did not stick in the water....but it sure stuck to my hands! I am not a big fan of the superglue and am more interested in the epoxy I had seen. It comes as a two part tube and when you mix it together it has a 30-40 work time before it sets. It was origonally designed for underwater use with PVC pipes in pond plumming and so on. Has anyone here worked with that? |

Most folks have probably worked with it, including myself. IMO, it is meant as more of a filler, not as an adherant. If you need to make a base, this stuff works, but it just doesn't stick to your corals. Some folks will put this down first, then superglue their corals to it.

So I just got home and found a coral knocked over that I'd glued down with CA a few days ago....pretty frustrating stuff....
