Orage Sponge Coral Turning White-HELP

:slap: My orange sponge coral is turning white????????I am feeding it Phyto,
it is in medium light source and medium water flow,any ideas on what to do?
Also add to water Kent Marinne PHYTOPLEX one teaspoon full three times weekly in a 24 gallon Nanocube.Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated..... scoobado

Sponges like low light and moderate flow.. Sponges also dont like air.. If when you put it in the tank and it came in contact with air,, air will get trapped in the coral and starve it.... I went to www.liveaquaria.com and did a search for sponge and it gave ways of saving a sponge with air trapped in them.....hope that helps.. good luck

The white part is dead. Cut it out. If you don't the gases from it decaying will start a domino effect.

As far as what caused the initial die off, there is no way to tell. It could have been air, improper flow, too much or not enough light, the wrong food, or any number of other things. You could try different positions in the tank, but it's probably a lost cause. There is no way to give most sponges sold in the hobby what they need in a reef tank.
