    Hungry critters

I purchased a few mushrooms and some button polyps. What are some basic food/suppliments they need to thrive?

Depending on the species of the mushrooms and tank conditions they will most likely thrive without any supplemental feedings. Button polyps (Palythoa sp) may be fed with any meaty foods, finely choped. When I kept them I used store bought frozen foods, like Prime Reef and mysis shrimp. However, I've seen them thrive in the LFS without any feeding but with strong metal halide lighting.
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

    Thanks Gene

I have seen a significant difference since switching to meaty foods for feedings. Tonight I noticed a BUNCH of bristle worms also feeding. Is there a reef safe fish that you could recommend to weed out this population? I have a Coral Beauty Angel, Coral Banded Shrimp, Feather Duster and a Hatian Anemone in the tank currently. I was thinking of a Jawfish or Hawkfish. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thank you.

I'd think twice about the Hawkfish. A lot of them get big. And most of them have the potential to eat or pick at smaller fish and shrimp.

    Ok

Thanks for the info-any thoughts on any fish that can control/feed on bristle worms that can live harmoniously (made up word!?!) with the other tank inhabitants?

Why do you want something that's going to feed on your bristle worms? Bristle worms are great detrivores and harmless to your tank.

i use cyclop eeze- the frozen bar.
i started thawing out about a teaspoon in a small silo cup, adding a little saltwater from the tank and sucking it up with a plastic syringe.
i target feed the buttons but not the shrooms, once a week. some of them divide just about every day since i started feeding them! its incredible.

in your specs you say you have 30 lbs of rock. you might want to add about another 30 lbs or so.
    just a suggestion.

    Thanks

Thank you-all. Will get more rock, will get the cyclops-eeze, will consider not getting a new fish now knowing that bristle worms aren't 'bad'. I'm new, relatively, to Reefs and still learning. Hard to break the fishtank without fishys
    Thanks all!
