It's after midnight, and I just polished off a large alcoholic beverage courtesy of kids and pop-eyed clarkii, so pardon my clueless state...
What happened? Is it cyano? Anyway, posting a hug, and a hope that the problem is resolved soon! Shay |

LOL Cyano... god, I wish! No, the tank sprung a leak along the bottom rim. It's insanity. No cracks or anything... so I have no idea why this happened. The bottom pic is supposed to show how it's leaking. YOu can see a thin line of water coming up from the black bottom border. It's an odd leak.

You got a hug!!!
![]() Same thing happened to me about 9 years ago with my 75. the cause was it wasn't level on the stand. I don't know if that was your problem, at least you got your critters safe. Sorry to hear! |

Sorry to hear this happened to you,Sara.
Here's a hug from me as well...It looks like the silicone failed along the bottom joint somewhere. The cause could be anything, from the tank being not level to just simply bad joint/silicone. Hope all critters survive the ordeal and you get to keep your sanity while all this goes away. I'm not at home so I can't post a cool hug smiley...

Thanks so much guys. I've just had a real bad string of luck here. I think you're right about the tank not being level. My whole apartment isn't exactly level, so it's very possible the floor under the tank isn't. I'm not sure how I'm going to fix that though....

I'm sorry that this happened.
So is there a plan? I'm sure you are so stressed out over this but are you gonna scrap the tank or try to repair the leak? |

Oh, I'm scrapping the tank... not worth the risk.

Yeah, and oddly enough... the tank itself is about the least expensive part of the hobby, am I right? I think just the tank was only about $124.

Right now I'm just wondering what to do with what's left of my sand bed. I threw 2/3 of it out. And I've been sorta "curing" what's left of it over the past 2 days. I have it about 8in deep in a 15g and I jst keep changing the water. I don't know if that's doing any good or just making things worse.

Sara, either way, you are probably looking at a cycle again. If your rock is still in circulating water, you may be better off going with a new bed. Did you save the top of the bed, or the bottom?

I saved the top. Is that good or bad? The bottom was mostly coarse aragonite I've been wanting to get rid of for some time now anyway.
I don't think I should have to go through a whole "cycle" like a new tank though. I have all the rock and everything in circulating water. And I have all the actual water too. I also have a 29g refugium that's normally hooked up to it that's been unaffected (except that it hasn't been exchanging water with main tank and it has a few refugees in it now. So I don't know what's going to happen. But I'm sweating like a pig here after lugging that thing up and down from my 4th floor apartment... |

that last line was pretty funny...I'm sorry but I hope that everything will be okay. the parameters shouldn't change that much if the water was replaced and the refug remained intact. It would be similar to a large water change I would think.

I think you will still see a small cycle Sara, but that's just my opinion. Saving the top was a good thought.

Yeah, I guess you're right. I just hope it's not so much my corals get in danger.

You could still keep your corals separate, couldn't you? They make not like being cramped, but it's alot better than going thru a whole cycle. I don't think it will be all that bad if you stay on top of it.
